Typeset resolution-independent math expressions & equations using LaTeX markup. Edit equations. Export to a PDF or PNG, or drag and drop to another app (Pages, Word, Numbers, Keynote, iBooks Author, PowerPoint, etc). Features:. No LaTeX install requirement.
No internet connection required. Equations are rendered as you type. Support many (but not all) commands available in LaTeX. Drag and drop, export as PDF (for best resolution), SVG or PNG.
Syntax and bracket highlighting. Palette to help you recall commands.
Save equations for later use. Drag PDFs created with Equation Maker back into Equation Maker to restore equation. Basic error reporting.
Note: to drag PDF equations from Pages back to Equation Maker: 1) select the PDF image in the Pages document and then 2) on the right select Image tab and drag the small PDF icon from Pages to Equation Maker (the rendering area). Gnostic student, Just what I wanted!
This app is similar to the free LaTeXit but with several nice benefits: 1. The drag and drop feature is nice. It can save your previously entered expressions so you can load them and continue editing. The save and load is a one-click interface that is very slick.
It doesn’t require you to have LaTeX on your hard drive, so if you edit LaTeX in the browser with an online service like Overleaf (which is awesome), then you can delete TeX off your mac. It doesn’t allow draw and drop directly to Affinity designer (which is the best software for making vector illustrations), but if you drag to the desktop, it drops a PDF file there, which you can then drag into Affinity.
Basically, this is perfect for generating small snippets of LaTeX output for inserting into illustrations and presentations. Gnostic student, Just what I wanted! This app is similar to the free LaTeXit but with several nice benefits: 1. The drag and drop feature is nice.

THFBoston, Very handy equation editor Update: Great value! I like it more the more I use it. It’s more powerful than I realized when I left my first review. The sample LaTeX code built into the pallettes is great.

I wish the interface were a little more polished, but for the price? Great combination of pallette editing and LaTeX editing.
I teach high school math, and don’t really need the power of a full LaTeX install, but I love having the option of using the syntax for editing. Best of both worlds. MathType Editor's Review Construct complex mathematical equations for your documents with this easy to use Windows tool. One of the biggest problems I remember having way back in the day was writing papers for either my math or physics classes. Back when I was in college, Windows wasn't around. Windows didn't really become Windows until well after I graduated from college. I had access to word processors and such, but they were DOS based, and at the time, most people hand crafted complex mathematical expressions in their documents. It was just easier, and a lot more affordable than any programmatic alternative. This is why I like MathType.
It constructs mathematical expressions on your Windows PC. MathType allows you to enter mathematical equations as easily as you would write math with paper and pencil. The app makes use of Windows 7's built-in handwriting recognition, though you'll need a PC with a touch screen in order to use this feature. You can also use its point and click editing features.
With Automatic Formatting, you can create equations quickly by choosing templates from MathType's palettes and plugging and chugging data into its empty slots. MathType applies mathematical spacing rules automatically as you type.

If you don't have a TabletPC or Windows PC with a touch screen, the app also supports customizable keyboard shortcuts. If you already know the TeX typesetting language, you can enter equations directly into MathType or Microsoft Word documents. TeX editing can also be mixed with point-and-click editing.
You can even paste in equations from existing TeX documents. Existing expressions can be saved to the MathType toolbar for repeated use later.
App Pro’s: Supports TabletPC and touch features, supports TeX or LaTeX, Supports every version of Office from Office XP forward App Con’s: limited scope and use, pricey for such a scope-limited application Conclusion: If you need to compose complex mathematical expressions for your Office documents, there's no better tool than MathType. The app is easy to use, supports Windows 7's TabletPC extensions and touch enabled hardware. With support for Office XP forward, it's going to work with the version of MS Office you already own. The only issue with the software is its limited scope and target audience. MathType Publisher's Description.
